Field Trip to Portsmouth Island
subject to weather conditions

Meet at the Park Service dock near the ferry landing at 8:00 (Departure time will be confirmed at the meeting Friday night!)
Fee is $20 per person - payable at the boat. First come, first served. Two boats will go.
Final arrangements announced at Friday night meeting

Optional: Hatteras / Ocracoke shelling, museums, shopping.

Ferry Reservations for Ocracoke via Cedar Island

When using the Cedar Island or Swan Quarter ferries it is highly recommended that ferry reservations be made in advance, especially for the return trip on Sunday. Separate reservations are required in each direction. Ferry charge is still $15 each way which must be paid at the time the reservation is made. Crossing time is about 2.25 hours.

Cedar Island to Ocracoke:

Departures from Cedar Island: 7:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 4:30 p.m.

Departures from Ocracoke: 7:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 4:30 p.m.

Ferry (free) Service from Hatteras to Ocracoke (NC12)

The Hatteras Inlet Ferry makes crossings on the hour (5 a.m. to 6pm, then 7:30 pm, 9pm, 10, midnight) from the Hatteras side and on the half hour (4:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m, 6:15 pm, 7:30,8:45, 10:30, midnight) from the Ocracoke side. Crossing time 1 hour.

Prices in the poolside building are: downstairs rooms (either 1 queen or 2 doubles) $110.00/night. Upstairs rooms (2queen beds) are $120.00/night. Prices are usually a little cheaper for the officeside rooms. There are no elevators.

Getting Around Ocracoke


All venues and the recommended lodging(P) are along NC 12.  Friday night those who want to meet for dinner will decide on a dinner location (Possibly Howard's Pub (H), or Pony Island Restaurant (P).)  Saturday morning the shell trip leaves from the Park Service dock(D) near the ferry landing.  Saturday and Saturday nights we have our meetings at the Ocracoke Community Center (C)
