March 2025 Ocracoke Meeting
The Club held its spring meeting in Ocracoke, NC on March 21-22 that included silent and live auctions and an Australian Outback Shelling presentation by Dora Zimmerman. Despite windy conditions, many Club members enjoyed a productive shelling excursion on Saturday to Portsmouth Island.

Bulls Island Excursion, Feb. 2025
North Carolina Shell Club members and their guests enjoyed a wonderful excursion to Bulls Island, SC, on Sun. Feb 23, 2025. Nineteen folks boarded a private Coastal Expeditions ferry at Garris Landing for a short ride to Bulls Island southern beach. Shells and sand dollars were plentiful and it was a picturesque day to enjoy a late winter walk on the beach. Save the date for the next trip: Feb. 22, 2026. More details to follow.

The winter thaw provided fresh falls off of the cliffs, exposing bivalves that were complete pairs Chesapecten nefrens, Arcidae, Lucine, Astarte, Dosinia.

Harold Brown has the Find of the Day – the Maryland State Fossil, Ecphora. There are many species of Ecphora. Harold will have to clean it and hopefully identify which one.
Sediment from the Miocene Epoch (5-23 million years ago) make up the Calvert Cliffs, which stretch 30-some miles along the western edge of the Chesapeake Bay
Digging through fresh cliff falls of gray loose clay and limestone marl is allowed. Digging in the cliffs themselves is strictly prohibited.
